NOLA LEE BAIRD YANCEY, 62

Nola Lee Baird Yancey, 62, of Blackfoot passed away quietly and peacefully on October 25, 2003 at her home following an extended illness.
Nola was born in Challis, Idaho on July 25, 1941 to Archie and Vera McAffee Baird. The family moved to a farm in the Rigby, (Milo) area where she grew up. She attended school in Rigby where she was active in FHA, and was a 1959 graduate of Rigby High School.
She graduated from Ricks College and Utah State University with a degree in secondary education. She taught Physical Education at Shelley Jr. High and at Box Elder Jr. High School in Brigham City, Utah for two years.
While attending USU in Logan, she met Marvin R. Yancey from the Riverton/Blackfoot area. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 9, 1965. After Marvin finished school they moved to Colorado Springs, where he worked for Hewlett Packard. They also lived in Bountiful and Centerville, Utah before moving back to the Blackfoot area.
One of the things she enjoyed most was being with her six children and watching them as they participated in the academic, sports and music events in the Blackfoot schools. She loved teaching and stayed involved with the school through serving in the PTA and by substitute teaching. She became interested in teaching at the Second Chance Project, which later became Independence Alternative High school. She attended ISU for her re-certification and taught Physical Education and Sociology at IAHS for seven years until 2000. She often said that children might be hard to teach at times, but they were not hard to love.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong testimony of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She has taught in the Primary, Sunday School, and Relief Society but most of her service was in the Young Women's program. She has served as a Young Women's President and has served on five different Young Women's Stake Boards. She especially loved the girls camping program. Most recently she served as the Laurel Advisor in the Riverton Ward.
Nola enjoyed those she worked with and her many dear friends. She also enjoyed quilting, reading, riding horses, boating and camping with her family and her beloved grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin and six children, Patrice (Alan) Schenk of Gilbert, AZ., Amber (David) Fuller of Pocatello, Bryce (Heather) Yancey of Longmont, Colorado, Daren Yancey of Blackfoot, Tamra (Justin) Norton of ST. George, UT. and Kristen Yancey of Blackfoot; two brothers, LaMon (Zelma) Baird and Neldon (Cheryl) Baird both of Rigby; two sisters, Connie (Jay) Morgan of Shelley and Shirlene (Nick) Hall of Menan and thirteen grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Vera Baird and her husband's parents, Richard and Ethella Yancey.
Her touch was felt by many and she will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at the Blackfoot LDS South Stake Center which is located at 900 Riverton Road, with Bishop Ron Thompson conducting. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Hawker Hill Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Groveland Cemetery.
