Ralph E. Compa, 84, of Maine Boulevard, died at 3:08 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2008.

Born June 13, 1924, in Outville, Ohio, he was a son of the late Joseph J. and Bernice L. Morrow Compa.

He had lived in the East Liverpool area since 1948.

A veteran of World War II, he was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, serving two years in the South Pacific. He was a life member of the DAV.

The former pastor of Grace Bible Ministries Gardendale Church of East Liverpool, which he founded in 1988, he was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, serving as voluntary visitation pastor. He also had served as pastor of Madison Trinity Church at West Point from 1968 to 1970 and as founding pastor of Faith Community Church of Beaver Crest Estates from 1971 to 1988.

Prior to entering full-time ministry, he was employed at Montgomery Ward, Milligan's Hardware, Mike Turk Inc., Litten Motor Sales and Smith & Phillips Co., during which time he engaged in private studies which led to his being called to and ordained by Madison Trinity Church.

A certified Dale Carnegie Sales Course Instructor in the mid-1950s, he also was a 60-year member of the United Commercial Travelers of New Brighton.

He was past president of the East Liverpool Jaycees, Community Rescue Mission, Salvation Army Advisory Board, Youth for Christ, East Liverpool Lions Club, Tri-State Chaplaincy Board and East Liverpool Ministerial Association. He also served several years as chaplain of Ohio Lions District 13D.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death Sept. 11, 2007, by his wife, Audrey M. Snair Compa, whom he married April 10, 1946.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Earl of East Liverpool and Kay Adkins and her husband, David Adkins, Sr., of East Liverpool.

There are three grandchildren, Melissa Lamp, David Adkins, Jr. and his companion, Margueritiea, of East Liverpool, and Jason Adkins and his wife, Anita, of East Liverpool.

There are eight great-grandchildren, Rachel Lamp, Garrett Adkins, Chelsea Marie Adkins, Charlie Marie Adkins, Christian Adkins, Brittany Adkins, Tabitha Randolph and Andrea Koon.

Also surviving are two sisters, Emelene Sheets and Lorraine Yajko, both of East Liverpool.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. Compa and S/Sgt. Joseph J. Compa, Jr., and by a son-in-law, David Earl.

The Rev. Lester Hickman is to conduct services at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial is to be in Riverview Cemetery.
