JOSEPH EDWARD - Age 86, passed away September 25, 2008. Born June 7, 1922, the son of Joseph Patrick and Clara Dunigan, Joe has gone to be with the love of his life, Marian, who died May 19, 2008, whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on October 11, 2007. He is survived by his 12 children, Joe (Candy) Dunigan, Diane (Fred) Smith, David (Sharon) Dunigan, Tim Dunigan, Karen F. Dunigan, MaryJo (John) Schultz, Dan (Karen Kaye) Dunigan, Steve (Kristi) Dunigan, Patty (Leo) Sete, Charlie (Laurie) Dunigan, Jane (Tau) Uhila, and Patrick (Lucy) Dunigan; 29 grandchildren, Healther Coe, Jennifer Simpson, Jeff Smith, Tracey Jackson, Joey Dunigan, Jason Dunigan, Stephanie Metcalf, Aimee Dunigan, Stacie Dunigan, Amanda Dunigan, Hillary Loring, Andrea Clark, Cortney Schaffer, Matt Schaffer, Megan Evans, Daniel Dunigan, Jr., Lindsay Dunigan, Max Dunigan, Keely Dunigan, Nina Dunigan, Ryan Sete, Leo Sete, Charlie Dunigan, Dustin Dunigan, Tobin Dunigan, Josephine Uhila, Patrick Dunigan, Drake Dunigan, and Lauren Dunigan; 21 great-grandchildren; and special family friends, Paul Sete and Lea Uhila. He is also survived by his sisters, Marianne Miles, Rita (Robert) Eagle, Marjorie Raciboski; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Richard) Fransted and Jean Dewitt. Preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Clara Dunigan; brothers and sisters, Alice Warfield, Richard, Wilfred, Charlie, Thomas, Beatrice Melcher. Joe was a member of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, Arbor Hills Country Club, numerous dance clubs, Carioca, Royal Quarters. Joe enjoyed playing golf, visiting the casino, playing cards, and especially spending time with his family and many friends. Joe served in the Air Force Air Transport Corp during World War II in the Pacific. Joe also received honors as the Notre Dame Man of the Year Club in 1980, the State of Michigan Distinguished Citizen Award for his service to the community, 1986 Distinguished Service Award from Foote Hospital for his year of service on the Board, 2006 he was inducted in the Lumen Christi Athletic Hall of Fame, in 2007 he received the Knights of Columbus Citizen of the Year Award, served as President of the Associated Underground Contractors, and on October 16, 2008 he will be inducted to the Michigan Construction Hall of Fame at Ferris State for their Annual Distinguished Contractor Award. Joe's greatest award was his gifts and service to his country and the Jackson community. Mr. Dunigan is at the Watson Funeral Chapel where prayers will be held Monday, 9:45 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial to follow at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 10:30 a.m., Reverend Robert McGraw officiating.
