"Dr. Michael Treon Sr. Family History" by Merritt W. Wolfe. Page 78-B contains pictures of Dr. Michael Trion's tombstone and notes by well-known Berks County historian Schuyler Brossman, 'Tombstone at Millbach, Lebanon Co. Pa., Lutheran Church. Translation reads: "Here rest the bones of Doctor Michael Trion who was born 17 Jul 1731 d. 24 Nov 1799, aged 68-5-19' - copied at Millbach 10 Nov 1974 - Schuyler C Brossman"

Michael Trion, Sr. did not perform military service during the Revolutionary War.

Per the published Pennsylvania Archives 5th Series, Vol. 7, page 25, Michael Treon of Heidelberg Township, Lancaster County (now Lebanon County) was enrolled in 1777 as Court Martial Man in Capt. George Null's Fourth Co., 1st Battalion (Col. Philip Greenawalt), Lancaster Co. Militia.

The "Act to Regulate the Militia of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania," passed March 17, 1777, established the position of "Court Martial" men but described them only as persons entitled to vote for members to serve in the General Assembly. A clarification of the term is found on page 85 of the Blue Book of Schuylkill County (1916) by Mrs. Ella Zerbey Elliot, a former member of the Pottsville Republican editorial staff, "The term 'Court martial' was not one of opprobrium, nor was it used in the military sense now given it. A 'Court Martial' man, in the Revolutionary war was a 'reputable citizen' and ranked next to ensign."

Michael Trion, Sr. was a doctor at the time of the Revolution. His removal from his medical practice to perform military service would not have best served the Millbach community.

Per Pennsylvania Archives, 2nd Series, Vol. 13, pg. 424:
On September 4, 1777, Michael Trion of Heidelberg Township took the oath of allegiance to the State of Pennsylvania. This record appears on a list regarding "Associated Battalions and Militia of the Revolution." This act of oath-taking appears to denote him as a Patriot but not an actual military member.

In 1997, I wrote the U.S. National Archives with a request that they search military records for Michael Trion (1731 - 1799) in Captain Null's Co., 1st Battalion, Lancaster Co. Militia. On February 18, 1998, the Archives replied no record found.

Researched and written by Drew Techner, 5th great grandson.
