Per Francis' obituary, he emigrated in 1846. After arrival in the US, he lived in Blackstone, Worcester, MA, for approx 10 years. The 1850 Census lists Francis as 18 years old, living with his parents and 5 siblings in Blackstone. It lists his job as a "card tender" which was a job in a textile factory. His father's job was a "dyer", also a textiles job.
Massachusetts public records show he married Ann Finley on 11 Apr 1857 in Blackstone, Worcester, MA. Shortly after, Francis and Ann moved to Jessenland, Minnesota, and farmed. Frances' parents and some of his siblings also moved to Jessenland. Francis and Ann had 9 children: John, Mary Jane, Patrick, Bridget, Isabelle, Francis, Daniel, Bernard and Owen.
