Obituary in The Morgan County News, Thursday, 31 Jan 1935, Vol. 17, No. 38 -- Ellsworth Tompkins. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning Jan. 16th at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Burrville for Ellsworth Tompkins who died at his home Monday morning, Jan. 4th, at the age of 67 yrs. and 4 months. He had been in failing health for some time. He was born near Byrdstown, Pickett Co., Sept 14, 1867 and had been a resident of Scott Co. for the past 31 yrs. He joined he Fellowship Baptist Church of Armathwaite at an early age. He was married to Ina George Jan. 5, 1890. To this union was born 13 children. Surviving him are his wife and 8 children, Mrs. Freeman Welch of Washington, D.C., Mrs. A. Y. Stonecipher of Robbins, Miss Leora Tompkins of Elgin, Elmer of Dayton, O., Cordell of Pontiac, Mich., George of New River, Clarence and Raymond of Elgin, 2 brothers, Ridley of Ky., and Roscoe of Knoxville; two sisters, Mrs. Lola Norman of Dunnville, Ky., Cinda Belle of Texas, and 21 grandchildren. Rev. W. F. Barber officiated. Burial was in church cemetery. Flower girls were Misses Mildred Todd, Nellie Lavender, Jaquett Todd, Marion Toomey, Erleen Davidson, Norma Fay Todd, Dorothy Norman and Julia Todd. Pallbearers were W. T. Walton, O. E. Todd, Willie Massengale, Alvin Simms, W. M. Todd, and N. C. Davis. Schubert in charge.
