VALLEY --- Mr. Horace Barnes, 78, of Valley died Monday, July 29, 1996, at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 31 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Burial will follow in Fairfax Cemetery in Valley.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Ruth Dixon Barnes of Valley; his son, Gary Marshall Barnes of Clemson, S. C.; two sisters, Catherine Emrich and Frances Barnes, both of Grosse Pointe, Mich; and two grandchildren.

Born April 15, 1918, in Alabama, Mr. Barnes was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairfax in Valley. He was a retired employee of WestPoint Pepperell's Utilization Plant. Mr. Barnes was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the U. S. Marine corps in the South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion and had been a resident of the valley area since 1937.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Fairfax in memory of Mr. Barnes.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m until 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
