Elsie Harper Farish, 93, a retired telephone operator, passed away Friday, April 22, 2005, at Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia. Services are 3 p.m. today at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel in Philadelphia with burial in Cedarlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Farish was born in Copiah County, Mississippi, the daughter of Lavinia Barker and James Sexton Harper. In the early 1930s she moved to Vicksburg and worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company. There she met her husband Obe Farish, to whom she was married for 50 years.

In 1938, the Farishes moved to the Stallo Community in Neshoba County where they reared five children. Following her husband's death in 1983, she continued to live in Stallo until illness forced her to move to Neshoba County Nursing Home.

An accomplished quilter, Mrs. Farish represented the State of Mississippi as a quilter in the Mississippi Pavilion at the New Orleans World's Fair. She was a longtime member of the Stallo United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and walking in the woods.

Mrs. Farish is survived by her five children: Sue Snow of Vicksburg; Peggy Tucker and husband Jack of Waco, Texas; Carol Vickers and husband Ovid of Decatur; Obe R. Farish and wife Sandy of Dothan, Ala.; and Rebecca Smith and husband Jerry of Louisville. She is also survived by a sister Jane Jones of Vicksburg, 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and devoted companion, Mrs. Pat Harrison.

She was preceded in death by her brother J.S. Harper of Hazlehurst.
