Passing of Mrs. Cole

Mrs. Sarah Gertrude Cole died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Reynolds in Baxter Springs, Kansas on January 12, 1928, after a short illness.

She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her devoted husband, J.H. Coles, four daughters, Mrs. Wm. Williamson of Girard, Kansas, Mrs. Dale Adams of this city, Mrs. Roy Manchester of Kennelworth, Utah, and Mrs. Wm. Reynolds of baxter Springs. Also six sisters and seven brothers, sixteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of friends.

She came to Kansas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.S. Hiner, when about 12 years of age, settling one and one-half miles west of Cherokee on the farm now owned by Walter Clugston, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to J.H. Coles on Jan. 2, 1876, and to this union four girls were born, all of whom survive her. She had great faith and was a member of the Presbyterian church in Cherokee. She lived in and around Cherokee practically all her life until the last five years, when she moved to Baxter Springs and lived with her daughter until her death at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 28 days.

Funeral services were held at the Reynolds home in Baxter Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Jennings of the Christian Church. Mrs. O.H. Curry sang "Face to Face" and Mrs. Alfred Wilson and Mrs. Curry, accompanied by Mrs. F.L. Tharp, sang "Someday We Will Understand." Interment was made in Cherokee cemetery by the side of her mother.
