Ades Emery, 86, of Topeka, died October 11, 2008 at the Topeka Presbyterian Manor.

She was born in Abbeville, LA. on December 26, 1921 the daughter of Ora and Elmire (Bertrand) Stelly.

Ades was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a Corporal during World War II. She was retired in 1983 from the Kansas Neurological Institute where she had been a health aide.

She and her husband were Red Carpet volunteers for the Library for many years.

Ades married James R. Emery in Tacoma, WA. on June 2, 1945. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2005. She is survived by one son, James R. Emery Jr. and wife Ilene and one daughter, Jean Pierce and husband Larry all of Topeka, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Eli Stelly of Port Arthur, Tx., Joseph Stelly of Beaumont, Tx. and a sister Lilymae Duhon of Arlington, Tx.

Mrs. Emery will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a Parish Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Mater Dei's Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
