Ferdinand "Ferdie" Schultz was the son of Frank and Catherine Elizabeth Smith Schultz. He never married and lived with his various siblings during his adult life.

Ferdinand Schultz, former New City Resident

Ferdinand Schultz, a former New City resident, died yesterday at a nursing home in upstate Plattsburgh. The retired gravegigger was 78. Born Sept 28, 1911, in New City to Frank & Catherine Smith Schultz, Mr. Schultz moved to upstate Lewis in 1969, the year he retired. Mr. Schultz, a handyman, worked 15 years as a gravedigger at Germonds Cemetery in New City. Mr. Schultz is survived by a brother, David of New City; and three sisters, Helen Moon of New City, Tillie Polhemus of Lewis and Ida Polhemus of Florida. A service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, witht he Rev. Ronald Sloan officiating, at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., New City. Burial will follow in Germonds Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 7-9 pm tomorrow at the funeral home.
