Mrs. Lola Surratt Eskridge, 83, departed this life at the Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. She was born to the late Kelly and Janie Wright Surratt of Cleveland County. She was a member of Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and quilting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eskridge Jr.; three brothers, Z.K. Surratt, Nekota Wright and Will Wright; and seven sisters, Ceonia Jackson, Alice Surratt, Bessie Surratt, Alice Wilson, Matilda Jeter, Elaine Gash and Lula Mae Hopper. She is survived by four sons, Edward Eskridge (Diane), Alfred Eskridge, Manuel Eskridge and Warren Eskridge (Cynthia) all of Shelby; seven daughters, Margaret Eskridge, Tilda Eskridge, Marcella Eskridge Gingles (Jerry), Elizabeth Eskridge Webber (Ronald), Sheila Eskridge Durham, Bonnie Eskridge Martin (Eddie) and Tereasa Eskridge all of Shelby; two sisters, Clara Surratt and Daisey Surratt Hall both of Shelby; 29 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two special nieces, Hannah Surratt Sims of Shelby and Teresa Jackson Brooks of Lawndale; and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral services were held on October 24, 2008 at Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church. The family received friends at the church and at 1331 Concord Street, Shelby. The Rev. Robert Coleman officiated. Enloe Enloe Mortuary
