Son of Barton Snyder/Snider and Elizabeth Bailey. Siblings: John Snyder, Arena Snider Marlett, Rebecca Snider Stone, William Snyder, and David B. Snyder. Traveled with his family from Vermillion County Illinois by covered wagon with Benjamin Franklin Marlett, arriving in Linn County Ks around 1857. His mother Elizabeth Bailey Snider died and was buried along the wagon trail (per Aunt Dencie Rakes Salmans) with an unnamed baby boy. The Snyder/Snider family is found in Mound City, Linn County KS from the 1858 Tax Records thru the various census records up to 1875. Alem is then found in Osage, Bourbon KS in 1895, Cherokee County KS 1910, Ft Scott, Bourbon KS in 1920 and finally in Marena Twsp, Hodgeman KS in 1930. He lived with Benjamin L. Marlett and Gladys Salmans Marlett the last years of his life and is buried along side the Marlett family at Brown's Grove Cemetery outside of Burdett, Ks.
