Funeral: 4 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Chapel, with Pastor Terri Lubber officiating. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum.
Anne was born in Santo on Oct. 16, 1919. She met her husband of 65 years, John, in grade school. As John went off to college, Anne ventured to Santa Barbara, Calif., joining her sisters who had moved west before her, and found a job as a nanny and nurse's aide for a wealthy family. Anne did not remain a California girl for long; she decided to return to Texas to marry her longtime beau, John R. Beneventi, in 1941 on New Year's Eve.
John and Anne began their family with three daughters: Nancy, Emily and Jan. When John went off to war, Anne became a single parent to daughter, Nancy. They would move throughout the country to be near John's home base. It was during this time that Anne met some of their dearest lifelong friends.
During the war, John suffered major wounds in combat and Anne found herself nursing him as they moved back to Texas. Anne spent her life helping others, whether it was her husband, children, time spent with friends or serving as a member of the Girl's Service League.
Anne was also a wonderful grandmother. She was involved in every aspect of her grandchildren's lives. Whether it was a school talent show, football game, cheerleading exhibition, horse show, swim meet or a theater production, Anne was there. Her love of family led to the beginning of "family night" at their home each week to ensure that everyone spent time together.
In her younger years, Anne fell in love with the sport of bowling. She competed on several amateur leagues which earned her a top place in the city tournament. At age 72, Anne missed rolling a perfect game by only one pin. For everyone she touched, Anne was the "perfect game." She will be dearly missed by her many family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by four sisters; her parents; and grandson, Brad Watkins.
Survivors: Husband, John R. Beneventi; daughters, Nancy Watkins, Emily Moss and husband, Gary, and Jan Underwood and husband, Joe; granddaughters, Shadden Watkins, Sara Neville and husband, Trey, Erin Glover and husband, Perry, and Chelsea Moss; grandsons, Austin and Anthony Underwood; and great-grandchildren, London and Aden.
