He married Armena Barton on Feb 18, 1926. They had two children: Shirley Mae and Ralph. Vern held a variety of jobs in his lifetime. At the time of his death, he was a retired self-employed painter. His nieces and nephews remember him as the uncle who played Santa Claus at family Christmas gatherings.
He died in August at his longtime residence in Auburn, MA. His siblings were: Ruth, Amelia, Herbert C. (living in California), Charles, Arthur Rich, Leo Vanslett, and Irene Nicolai of Worcester.
