OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Nov 4 1932 “Rites Held For Joseph Bedard: Funeral At Gaastra Church Yesterday; Burial At Stambaugh”
Services for Joseph Bedard, 67, of Gaastra, who died at his home here at 4 o’clock Monday afternoon as the result of a heart attack, were held from the St. Mary’s church of Gaastra at 9 o’clock yesterday morning. Burial was made at the Stambaugh cemetery.
Bedard was about half way from his shed to his house, when members of the family noticed him suddenly fall backward and lay prone upon the ground. As the aged man collapsed, the arm load of wood he was carrying fell from his grasp, striking him on the chest and face. His wife and others of the family immediately rushed to the side of the stricken man, but no aid could be given him as he died before striking the earth, the backward fall indicating a sudden death.
Mr. Bedard was born May 1, 1865, in Quebec, Canada. He spent the first twenty seven years of his life in Canada before moving with his wife to the United States, establishing residence in Dickinson county. He worked for twenty years in Dickinson county in the lumbering industry, finally moving to Gaastra where he has worked in the mines for the past twenty years.
Mr. Bedard is the father of fifteen children, four of whom have died in past years. Besides his wife, eleven children survive the deceased. They are Lillian and Marion, at home, Mrs. F. Clough of Pontiac, Mrs. J. Chokae of Oakland, California, Mrs. Joseph Scarlotti of Gaastra, Mrs. C. Goodman and Mrs. W. Erbin also of this village; and four sons, Louis of Gaastra, Ira of Pontiac, Fred of Racine, Wisconsin, and George of Iron Mountain.

OBITUARY of Marian Begres 2002 says Joseph Bedard was her father.
