Florin was born in Montefredane, a city in the province of Avellino, region of Campania, Italy. His parents were Pasquale Dente (1863-1950) and Mariagrazia Aquino (1871-1952). He served in the military and his death may have been due to gas poisoning when he lost the partial use of the right arm from shrapnel (family story).

His newspaper obituary (The Staten Islander, 16-Mar-1926) reads in part; "Florin Dente, War Hero, Laid to Rest with Military Honors. Architect, corporal in the Rainbow Division, overseas veteran and hero...Staten Island' famous war heroes, Regiment of the 43 Division, the Rainbow..."


He married Josephine "Gloria" DiSalvo and had two sons; Eugene A. "Gene" and Florin "Buddy" Jr.
