Henry was born in KY, and moved to Macoupin Co. Ill, in 1835. In 1835 his father died and he took care of the family, being then about 23 years old. They remained in Ill. until 1836 and then moved to Jefferson county, Iowa where they remained until 1840 and then went to Gentry Co. MO He married in 1841 to Miss Emily Sego. To them were born nine children, six of whom survive him. His wife died Dec. 16, 1877. He lived with his children in Missouri until about 1887, when he came to Decatur County, where he made his home with his nephew, W.P. Akes, up to the time of his death. He united with the Christian church when he was about 30 years of age, and has lived a devoted christian ever since. He was laid to rest in the Palestine cemetery.
