Mrs. Sarah Key Matthews was born to the late Dan and Lula Key. She is the widow of William G. Matthews. "Ma Ma" as she was affectionately called, enjoyed gardening and traveling. Fond memories remain in the hearts of her two sons and two daughters-in-law, Willie C. and Hannah Matthews of Coatsville, Pennsylvania, and Peter W. and Lilly Mae Matthews of Old Fort, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lucille Key and Mrs. Annie Dawkins Maddox of Lawndale, North Carolina; Nine grandchildren and their spouses, Aritha (Trudy) and Harold Graves, William and Joyce Mathews, Diana and Albert Bradley, Deborah and Phillip Smith, Willie and Linda Matthews, Bennie and Hilda Matthews, Thurgood and Sheila Matthews, Barbara (Wendy) Matthews, Sarah and John Lewis; 10 great grandchildren: Kelvin Wilson, Calvin Wilson, Wesley Smith, Lamont Smith, Jonathan Matthews, Keisha Matthews, Therilia Matthews, Lindsay Matthews, Brittany Matthews, Lillian Siobhan Armstrong and host of relatives and lifelong friends.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m., on May 7, 1994 at the Catawba View Missionary Baptist Church in Old Fort, North Carolina. Funeral Sevices were held on the same date, at Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church, in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Elder John Hunt officiated. DeBaptiste Funeral Home, Kirksey Funeral and Dockey Funeral Home provided their services.
