OBITUARY

THE CHARITON DEMOCRAT
Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, July 27, 1882

IN MEMORIAM

"Blessed are the dead that die in Lord from henceforth; yea, saith the spirit that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them."

Mrs. Sarah J. Foulks, wife of James Foulks, departed this life Tuesday, June 13th, in the triumph of the Christian faith.

She was born June 7th, 1824, in Chambersburg, Pa. She removed with her parents at the age of sixteen years to Mansfield, Ohio, where she was married Sept. 22nd, 1845, to James Foulks. With her husband she removed to Lucas county in June of the years 1855. She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom were at home during her last illness and death.

She was called to endure protracted and severe suffering, taking sick the first of last January. Her disease, which was pronounced incurable from the first by several leading physicians, is termed in medical practice Lympha denoma or inflammation of the lymphatic glands. Her death was serene and peaceful.

For some time previously she was anticipating her departure and expressed herself as not disappointed in her trust in Christ. A few minutes before her death she told one of her sons that she was now going to occupy the mansion.

Such a death was but the appropriate termination of such an earthly life. She had for many years been an earnest and hopeful Christian, rejoicing in performing whatever duty was imposed on her, exemplifying the spirit of her Divine Master. To her family and the friends who knew her, she was an example of charity, integrity and godliness.
