Ottoman Sultan 26 Feb 1618 - 19 May 1622.

Son of Sultan Ahmed I and Mahfirûz Sultan.

Osman II becomes the new sultan as Mustafa I is removed from the sultanate. Despite only being 14 years when becoming sultan, Osman was the most apt ruler since Süleyman 1, 50 years earlier. But things in the empire had deteriorated too much, so when Osman II tried to reform things, especially the Janissaries, he was violently removed from his position on May 19 and Mustafa I returns to office.

Osman Khan II signed a peace treaty with Iran within a few months after ascending to the throne, thus insuring security on the empires eastern border.

The Sultan's next objective was to take care of the situation with Poland which had embroiled the state since 1617. Due to diobedience of his Janissary Corps and quarrels amongst his statesmen, he wasn't able to reach any sort of accord.

He was educated in religion and scientific knowlege and was fluent in Arabic, Farsi, Latin, Greek and Italian. He wrote a collection of poems using the pseudonym "Faris/Farisî."

May 20, 1622, Sultan Osman II strangled by Janissaries in Istanbul. He was the youngest sultan to die on power and the first to be murdered during an uprising.

His children, Crown Prince Ömer, Mustafa and Zeynep Sultan died during childhood.
