He came from Virginia to Jefferson, Jackson Co., GA in 1791, with parents and five brothers Land Lottery of GA 1827: Nathaniel Venable received LL83, Sec.B, Jackson Co. The 1832 Cherokee Land Lottery of Georgia, Smith, James F., NY 1838, 235, 231: 166 Nathaniel Venable's ors 245th Jackson page 231, Tenth District Third Section Cherokee. DAR #:67499; 126407; 67498; 95419; 98527 MILITARY: Priv.in Capt. Jos. Whorton's Co. Jan. 5 - March 5, 1814 Fort Daniel BURIED: prob. in Jackson Co., GA REF: (M.R. 1779 - 1836 p. 54).
The headstones over his and his father Capt. John's graves were placed by Mrs. Thomas Eldridge (Leila Venable Mason) from Atlanta, GA in Dec 1931, after years of searching by her mother Mrs. Frank Mason (Elizabeth Venable). The headstones were made in the family quarries at Lithonia, and read: Nathaniel Venable/ 1781-1832/ son of Captain John Venable/ and Agnes Moorman
Darrell L. McGraw traveled to Jefferson to locate the Venable graveyard in Oct 1993. The cemetery is fenced, and approximately 50 feet by 25 feet, just off a road, about 2 miles south of Jefferson, Jackson Co., GA. He obtained permission from the current owner of the land surrounding the cemetery, Ed Davis, before clearing the cemetery. He placed a sign on the gate marking it as the "Venable Family Cemetery." There is a map in The Venable Letter, Vol II, Issue 2, Sep/Oct, p.2.
