Albert Hape, D.D.S., was a practicing Dentist in Thomason, McDuffie Co., GA. At the time of his death, he was found in his office. He was practicing dentistry, on October 5, 1884 when he died of heart failure.
Served in the C.S.A. in the Battle of Griswoldville. Wounded in the chest and had been given up for dead. He had miraculously recovered, minus one lung.
Dr. Albert Hape was known as the "Dare Devil Dentist", along with Professor, Samuel A. King became the first locals to go up in a hot air balloon on December 10, 1869. An article reported the event on December 11th. Dr. Hape made two attempts, taking off in his hot air balloon from Stone Mountain (DeKalb Co., GA) and Tallulah Gorge (Habersham Co., GA).
Though known for his handsome appearance and romantic temperament, he never married.
Dr. Albert Hape's brother, Dr. Samuel Hape would later be the founder of Hapeville, GA (near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport).
