Fredrick William Harris was born to William H and Margaret (Lewis) Harris in Girard, Trumbull, Ohio. There were siblings James (1882-1941), Margaret (1884-1955, m Ray Rickard) and Mary (1892-1893). Fred's father and youngest sister died when Fred was a child. Little is known of the parents of William H. Harris or Margaret Lewis.

Fred married Ilo Gioma Crum on 22 Feb 1909 in Youngstown, OH. They were the parents of Clara(1910-1996, married Franklin Gregg), James F. (1912-2007, married Charlotte Myers), Mary Laverne (1915-1987, married Edwin C. Kaiser), William Crum (1917-1997, married Ethel May Sinn) and Dorothy Mae (1921-2012, married Wilfred Wood).

Fred has draft cards for WWI and WWII although he was never called to serve. Fred started in the grocery business in 1900 and eventually had his own store. The final store location was on Mahoning Avenue until it closed in 1972.

Fred and Ilo and several of their children are buried in the "New" Four-Mile Run cemetery in Austintown.
