Harriet was born November 24, 1862 in Bedford (near Stanbridge), Quebec, which is part of the Eastern Townships region. Her parents were Edmund Chagnon and Philomena Audette, who were married on Aug 20, 1861 at Notre Dame de Stanbridge. She married a Mr. Daniels in 1881, probably in CT. They had one daughter named Agnes who died in Brimfield on Oct 15, 1973.

Harriet's second marriage was to George Waldo Young on Dec 16, 1886 in New Brittain, CT. They lived in Spencer and the cove district of East Brookfield with residence in this town for nearly half a century. According to family stories, Harriet was a housekeeper at St. Mary's Rectory in Spencer.

Children of George and Harriet were: Howard, Edmund, Richard, Clara, Walter and Wilfred. Harriet died on June 3, 1940 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester. At the time of her death she also left a sister Rose Chagnon of Bridgeport, CT and two brothers, Arthur and Frederick Chagnon of Bridegeport.
