John came to America with his parents in 1830 settling near Andover, Mass. His Father, John Plunkett, Sr. died in Baltimore, MD.
John migrated to Texas in 1834, bringing his widowded mother and other extended family.
Granted Donation Certificate No. 947 for 640 acres of land November 15, 1839 for service in Captain Robert J. Calder's Company at The Battle of San Jacinto.
Also served in Captain Thomas Stewart's Company, MATAGORDA VOLUNTEERS.

He died October 3, 1886, Matagorda, Matagorda County, Texas.
He willed his Estate to his 2 sisters: Elizabeth (Plunkett) Holt, and Isabella (Plunkett) Dale.
