From the Records of Presbyterian Church, Lovettsville, Loudoun County, Virginia, from May 15th, 1869 to April 30, 1885, page 21:
1882, May 15. Died in the faith of the Gospel, Jonah Potterfield, the senior Elder and for many years the only ruling Elder in the Lovettsville Church. A shock of wheat fully ripe. He was buried in the church yard in Lovettsville Wednesday the 17 May. His late pastor, Revd. Henry Branch preached the sermon from the text. For me to live in Christ and to die is Grace! A large concourse of friends followed his remains from his home near Buelice (?) to the burial place, and a crowded church testefied {sic} their sympathy with his family as well as their attachment to his person.
