Family oral history is that this photo was J. Peter Dollar. The original spelling of the family surname was Doller. Peter was born July 22, 1842 and was the last child born in Morsdorf, Rheinland, now Germany. His family immigrated aboard the Sailing Barque Argo from the Port of Le Harve to Port of New York and settle a deep forest, wilderness homestead in DePere, Brown County, Wisconsin, in 1842 when Peter was 5 months old. Peter enlisted August 14, 1864 • De Pere, Brown County, Wisconsin, USA • Union Army, Wisconsin First Cavalry Regiment, G Company. After seeing action in Kentucky and Tennessee, Peter died from Dysentary (inflammation of the intestines accompanied by bloody diarrhea.) and possibly Enteric (Typhoid) Fever (A Salmonella typhi bacterial disease spread through contaminated food and water or close contact. Often severe and fatal). He was buried the day he died. Peter was age 23 years.

Enlisted on Aug. 24, 1864.
Died GH #3, Nashville, Tn from chronic diarrhea.
