Excerpt -- Mr. Rees Shay, an old and highly respected citizen who has resided near Austen for a number of years, died of consumption on Feb. 24, 1878, aged about 60 years. The deceased was afflicted for more than a year previous to his death, and most of the time confined to his room. A few minutes before he died he called his wife to his bedside and told her he would have to leave her, but he was prepared for a better world. The remains were interred in the Shay Cemetery and were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of people. He leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
