Robert Jeffery's life from the public record:
In the 1840 US Federal Census for Moyamensing, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Robert Jefferies [sic] has in his household two males under 5 (the twins, Thomas and Robert) two males between 5 and 10 (John and Ephraim), one male between 30 and 40 (himself), one female between 5 and 10 (Mary), one female between 20 and 30 (his wife Harriett) and one female between 60 and 70 (person unknown). He is in “manufacturing” which would match his trade as a tanner.

In the 1850 US Federal Census for Franklin Township, Johnson County, Indiana, Robert Jeffery, a 56-year-old tanner with $5,000 of property, born in Pennsylvania, has in his household his second wife, Sarah [Price Carson] Jeffery (age 38, born in Kentucky) and his children, John (age 16, laborer), Mary Ursula (age 14), and 12-year-old twins, Thomas and Robert Jeffery. All of these children were born in Pennsylvania. In his household are also two children who are his step-children, Mary Jane Carson (age 16, born in Kentucky) and James Carson (age 3, born in Indiana). This is a “blended family” with the Jeffery children being Robert’s and the Carson children being Sarah’s by an earlier marriage. The facts that confirm this statement are the birthplaces of the children. All the Jefferys were born in Pennsylvania, where Robert originated, while the Carson children were born in Kentucky and Indiana, where Sarah is known to have been. Also the 1860 has James Carson living with Sarah, therefore presumably his mother, after her marriage to Hervey McCaslin.

Robert Jeffery died 9 Oct 1850 in Johnson County, Indiana and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson, Indiana.
