Mr. & Mrs. Charles B. Elrod Die

Mrs. Grace Elrod, 69, wife of Charles B. Elrod died Wednesday afternoon and in a few minutes Mr. Elrod ended his life by shooting himself in the temple with a revolver. The bullet passed through his head and out through a window.
Mrs. Elrod had been an invalid for three years from a paralytic stroke. She died from another stroke earlier in the day. Mr. Elrod, age 75 had been in his usual health. They had been life-long residents of the community. Mrs. Elrod was, before her marriage Miss Grace Bierly, daughter of the late Mrs. and Mrs. David Bierly who lived in Old Pekin. She was a sister of Charles E. Bierly who conducted a store here until his death several years ago. Mr. Elrod was born in Polk township, the son of John and Louisa (Tash) Elrod. They were married over 51 years ago. For many years he conducted a general store in Pekin and was engaged in several enterprises during the building of the town.
Survivors are two sons Carl R. Elrod, Pekin; Thomas Elrod, Indianapolis; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Zink, Pekin and Mrs. Herman Bowers, Indianapolis. Mrs. Elrod has one sister Mrs. Alfred Johnson, Pekin and Mr. Elrod one brother Robert Elrod of Pekin.
A double funeral was held at the Olive Branch Baptist church, Friday morning conducted by the Rev. Reeder of Louisville. Burial was in the Olive Branch Cemetery.
