Amos Helwick was born Nov. 22 1836 in Pennsylvania to Elisha & Sarah Narber Helwick. Amos married Catherine Lewis on Oct. 10 1861 in Washington County, Iowa.
Amos enlisted as a private on Feb 9 1864 at the age of 27 in Company C, 19th Infantry Regiment Iowa. He died of disease on Apr. 3 1864 in Brownsville, Texas. And was buried in the Brownsville National Cemetery. In 1911 all the Civil War Soldiers were moved to Alexandria National Cemetery, Alexandria, Louisiana. (Some were claimed by family and friends).
