Many other Geib families lived in the Steindwenden and Miesenbach area (by Mackenbach). At least two other Philipp Geib men were baptized in the Evangelical churches in these towns, causing confusion at the FamilySearch.org world tree. There is a Philipp Daniel Geib (GNTQ-GKG, born March 26, 1837) married to Elisabeth Stemler; and a Philipp Daniel Geib (963F-KRW, born Feb. 11, 1848) married to Elisabetha Jung and to Katharina Kleeman. The 1837 Philipp Geib's mother was Philippina Emmerich married to Johann Jakob Geib in Mackenbach.
Eleanore Geib Ropiak wrote in December 1987: "My father as I recall was born in Machenbach Germany border of Bavaria." However, researcher Paul Polansky of Spillville, IA wrote in December 1996: "Phillip Geib born April 28, 1869, at Lichtenberg, Solka, Bukovina." Paul may have confused Phillip's birth place with his wife Anna Fastner whose family lived in Solka, Bukovina.
The 1910 US Federal Census gives "Germany" as his birth place. The 1891 marriage record shows "Maggenbach Bavaria" as his place of birth.
Phillip emigrated from Antwerp, Belgium, on February 12, 1886, and arrived in New York on February 26, 1886. He declared his intention to become a United States citizen on April 19, 1919 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. From his DECLARATION OF INTENTION: Philipp Geib, age 49, laborer, white, fair, 5'9", 160 lbs., gray hair, gray eyes, right thumb off, born in "Mackenback, Germany" on April 28, 1869, now resides at 1112 Vliet St., Milwaukee, WI, emigrated to US from Antwerp, Belgium on vessel (unknown to declarant), last foreign residence was Mackenback, Germany, married to Anna born at Austria, now resides at Milwaukee, WI. Arrived at port of New York on Jan. 12, 1886. Signed April (12?), 1919 at Milwaukee, WI.
Phillip's occupation was butcher and meat salesman, and worked between 1900 and 1931 at Usinger Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On August 19, 1891, he was married to Anna Fastner (Schmidt) at Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Anna brought a daughter Frances Schmidt into the marriage. Eleven children were born to Phillip Geib and Anna Fastner. See Anna's memorial for more information. Phillip Geib (also spelled Philipp) has ID number LWGZ-9DY at FamilySearch.org
