Elias grew up on a farm.
After his marriage to Almira in November of 1835 they moved to Ohio in 1838. Then in 1842 the family moved to Stark County and bought a 90 acre farm just west of Alliance, Ohio. Besides farming Elias had a great love of horses. Elias raised and breed horses for twenty five years, frequently shipping them to the east coast.
Elias was a faithful member of the Baptist church and was a member for more than 50 years. He served as deacon with his local church for many years.
Elias had many siblings, he had an older brother, Corp David Sickler Ellett and two older sisters; Elizabeth and Mary. The younger siblings were; Jane, Josiah Hall Ellett, Sarah, John and Catherine.
