Davis served on Namur and Saipan. On June 22, 1944, Able Company was cut off from the rest of their battalion, and badly mauled. Fred Davis was shot in the back and very badly wounded. His comrades tried to evacuate him, but he died later that day.
Davis' remains were returned to his native North Carolina after the war.
