For many years, John Bremond II owned and operated John Bremond Company of Austin, Texas, a wholesale grocery and coffee-roasting business that had its beginnings in 1847 with a grocery store opened by his father, John Bremond, Sr. By 1950, the firm had around 50 employees, and roughly 60 percent of its sales came from outside of Austin. The firm's sales territory extended to Llano, Lampasas, San Saba, New Braunfels, Giddings, Johnson City, and Fredericksburg, and John Bremond's Coffee was distributed throughout the state. The firm was known for the long tenure of its employees, a number of whom worked at the company for their entire careers. John Bremond Company closed its doors in 1957 after 109 years of doing business.

NOTE: This man was NOT the Austin firefighter as some mistakenly have said. It was his father John Bremond, Sr. (1813-1866) who was a fireman in New York prior to his arrival in Texas and is credited with starting the Austin Fire Department.
