George Maxwell was born about 1854 in Indiana to Basil and Amy (Guion) Maxwell. He is listed in his father's household in the 1860 and 1870 Lawrence township, Marion County, Indiana censuses. He could not be located in further U. S. censuses. His brother Morgan's obituary stated he had died before 1930; however, his great niece Valda Wolfgang Henry thought he died in 1933. She noted that he lived in Canada most of his life but came back when he was sick and died here of pneumonia. He is buried in McDowell Cemetery, Casco township, Michigan.
