Daniele Marignoni was the first Italian who learned Esperanto. He was a great student of shorthand, as well as of many natural and planned languages. He spent his whole life in Crema, although he traveled a lot. In Paris he learned of the existence of the International Language that Zamenhof, with the publication of the first grammar in Russian, created in 1887. Marignoni shared the aims and idealistic aspects of that language, so he wrote the first Italian grammar of Esperanto in 1890.
Marignoni was wealthy: he published at its own expense its work and contribute financially to the Esperanto movement.
He died on January 28 1910 at 5pm, at the age of 64 years and 27 days, "with all religious comfort." He was buried Jan. 31, after the funeral held at the Cathedral of Crema.
Today his tomb is in a niches at the Crema's Mausoleum of famous citizens.
