Kathryn Eleanor (McElroy) Whitaker, daughter of, Carl Todd and Leora Sophia (Byrum) McElroy. She died at the age of 66 years old.

She operated Gambles Hardware Store in 1955.

Fairfield-Kathryn Whitaker, 66 of 602 S. D St. died at 7:55 a.m. March 30 in Jefferson County Hospital.

She was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Wapello County to Carroll and Leora Byrum McElroy. She married Willard Whitaker October 10, 1937. He died August 21, 1979. She was a housewife and had some of her poetry printed in "Lyrical Iowa." She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United methodist Women, Iota sigma, Brosis class, Harper Prayer Group and Red Cross Gray Ladies.

Survivors: her mother, Leora Moore of Ottumwa; a son, Willard F. III of Diamond Bar, Calif; a granddaughter; a brother, William McElroy of Ottumwa; and sisters Vera Erickson of Pharr, Texas, Marjorie Myers of Ottumwa, Betty Speyer of LaFayette, La., and Carolyn Furlong of Coral Gables, Fla.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, the Revs. John W. McElroy and Wayne L. Bartruff officiating. Burial: Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.
Family visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials: to her church or American Cancer Society.
