The young wife of a Korean veteran was killed instantly and a two and one-half year old tot died enroute to the LDS Star Valley Hospital following a head on collision which hospitalized four others two seriously. The accident occurred Monday evening about 3 1/2 miles south of Afton on Highway 89.
Mrs Gerald Muirhead (Gaye Linford) 21, apparently died instantly in the crash and Scott Thomas Sleight 2 1/2 died before reaching the hospital State Patrolman W.B, Freeman reported. Airman Second Class Gerald Muirhead, a veteran on emergency leave from Korea, suffered fractures of both legs and extensive cuts and bruises. The Muirheads and the Sleight child were the only occupants of one car.
Also injured in the collision were Mrs Ruby Erickson, who suffered fractures of the right leg and arm as well as cuts and bruises, her daughter, Judy, 16 driver of the car, who suffered from shock severe lacerations and bruises, and son Joel 13, who received cuts and bruises.
Mrs Muirhead, a former resident of Star Valley was the daughter of Mr and Mrs A. R. Linford of Raymond. She recently was graduated form nursing school and was employed at the Dee Hospital in Ogden. She attended schools at Afton, Raymond, and Cokeville before her marriage to Airman Muirhead.
The Sleight child was the son of Mr and Mrs Doyle Sleight of Geneva who operated the general store there.
The bodies were taken to the Schwab Mortuary in Afton.
Airman Muirhead was evacuated by air to Warren Air Force Base at Cheyenne Wednesday morning.
Funeral services for Mrs Muirhead will be held today, Friday in the Afton North Ward Chapel at 2 p.m.
