David Sylvester Beck, 74, resident of Comanche before he moved to De leon, nearly four years ago, passed away at his home in De Leon Thursday of last week. Funeral services were held at the Higginbotham Funeral Home in DeLeon last Friday with Rev. T. N. Carter, Comanche, in charge. Interment was in the De Leon cemetery.
Pallbearers were W. J. Beck, Audrey Botts, Marshall Botts, M. G. Matthews, Elmer Botts, Tom Beene and O. H., Matthews.
Flowers bearer were: Priscilla Beck, Sylvia Ann, Billye Ruth, and Patsy Jean Anderson, granddaughters; Mrs. Annie Hull, Mrs. Marvin Kemper, Mrs. Dud Watson, Miss Opal Botts, Mrs. Cecil Flasher, and Mrs. Bob Allen, nieces of the deceased.
The following sketch of the life of Mr. Beck was ready by the minister at the services.
David Sylvester Beck was born in Polk County, Arkansas, on Nov. 27 1874. Moved to Texas in childhool. He was converted and united with the Missionary Baptist Church in early manhood. He was ordained a deacon soon after his marriage to Missouria Ann Beene on July 22, 1906. To this union three children were born. All present with their mother to mourn his passing. They are Mrs. A. N. Anderson, De Leon; Harold Beck, Comanche; and Mrs. Lester Morgan, De Leon. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; one brother, George Beck of Amarillo; three sisters, Mrs. W. F. Reid, Roswell, New Mexico; Mrs. J. W. Paul of West, and Mrs. W. G. Botts of Plainview, and a large number of nephews and nieces and friends over a wide territory. Mr. Beck was preceded in death by two brothers, and two sister, Mr. Beck passed to his reward Dec. 9, 1948.
