Earl R. Chesnut, 85, formerly of 515 N. Poplar, died April 12 in Cedar House Nursing Home.
The son of A. R. and Alice (Baker) Chesnut, he was born Sept. 7, 1891, in Coffey County, moving to Franklin County with his parents as a small boy.
He was a veteran of World War I, serving with the U.S. Army, and had been a salesman until his retirement.
Mr. Chesnut attended the Methodist Church in Ottawa and Mt. Vernon, Wash., and was active in the Epworth League of the Church.
Several nieces and nephews survive, including Caris Mallory, Cleva Hemphill, Gerald Nutt, and Dr. Paul Phillips of Shawnee, Okla. A sister, Olive Phillips, a half-brother, Oscar Chesnut, and three half-sisters, Nora Brown, Theodocia Abraham and Lora Nutt, preceded him in death.
Rev. James McCrossen officiated at services in the Robson-Towner Funeral Home April 14. Burial was in Hope Cemetery where VFW Post No. 5901 conducted military graveside services.
