"On June 17, 1854, the Reverend John Fairchild, his wife [Mary Warner*], Mr. and Mrs. Jared Miller, and Mrs. [Maria] Jane Sears* (1821-1896) [wife of Horace Sears] met at the Miller home, now the Bill Kinsey farm, and organized a "Baptist Society". Later the name "The First Baptist Church and Society of Bowne, Kent County, Michigan" was adopted."
