Some family members affectionately called her "Dodo"

Duvie died February 18th, and was buried the next day on the 19th. According to her daughter Lillian Augusta Meyers-Sanders, Duvie's casket lay in wait at the old Meyers home on Main Street in Hillsboro in the entry way or living room, next to the front door, on the same wall as the front door. This home is an adobe home, is listed as a historical site, and was built by Charles H. Meyers and Amelia Schertz-Meyers who was Duvie's in-laws.

Duvie's short life was full. She was a collector of post cards, and had hundreds that friends and family would send her beginning when she was a teenager and into her married life. Duvie had many a man who was interested in her. It is from the post cards that the correct spelling of her 1st name has been verified. Her headstone has her name spelled correctly. Duvie developed pneumonia when she was 31, and died at home at the ranch in Hillsboro (now part of Ladder Ranch). Her mother in-law Amelia Schertz-Meyers and her brother in-law George Meyers were at the home taking care of Duvie and the 5 children. Amelia went into the bedroom to see how Duvie was doing and discovered she had died. Amelia screamed out.."Oh my God Duvie"! Little Lillian heard and knew her mama was gone. Duvie wore glasses. She was a very dear girl who grew into a very dear and beautiful woman who loved her children and husband.

In reading the many post cards Duvie kept, the one thing that is obvious is that she was dearly loved by her husband, her children, her parents, her siblings, her many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends-as they sent her enough post cards to fill a very large post card book that is bulging to the brim. Duvie lovingly saved all her post cards.

The loving Valentines Day post cards between Duvie and her husband Charles E. Meyers are heart warming.
