BRENTON — Dora "Kathleen" Blankenship-Hatfield-Acord, 76, of Brenton, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.

Born June 14, 1932, at Pineville, she was the daughter of the late John Elmer "Johnny" Blankenship (1908-Deceased) and Eva Miller-Adams-Blankenship (1894-1975).

Mrs. Acord was a member of the Mill Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, canning, fishing, camping, sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed being with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gibson Acord (1924-1992) whom she married on December 30, 1959 in Brenton, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1959, Page 228, Application Date: December 28, 1959); a daughter, Glenda Ella Acord (1958-1997); a son, Glenne "David" Hatfield (1951-1951); grandson, Johnny Wilmer (Deceased); three brothers, Coy Adams (Deceased), Troy Adams (1912-1994) and Calvin Blankenship (1930-2001); and three sisters, Allie Adams-Shealine (1920-Deceased), Merlie Adams-Atkins (1919-Deceased) and Lillian Blankenship-Dancy (1935-2006).

She was also married to Freeman Lee Hatfield (1922-1999) on June 5, 1946 in Mullens, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1946, Page 496, Application Date: June 1, 1946). The marriage ended in divorce.

Survivors include a son, Calvin Lee Hatfield of Beckley; three daughters, Carolyn "Kay" Holland (Deceased) and Brenda Faye Hatfield-Cook-Sinecoff (1954-2015) both of Brenton, Kathy Hedrick and her husband, Leroy Hedrick, of Lexington, N.C.; nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Kathleen's life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009, in the Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mervin White officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
