James was a son of Eng BUNKER, one of the original Siamese Twins, and Sarah Ann "Sally" (YATES) BUNKER. James came to Kansas in 1877 and homesteaded near Milan. His middle name, given in the Irving Wallace book, "The Two", was Montgomery, but in an interview with his brother Patrick for a newspaper article, his middle name was given as Monroe. He married first in Sumner Co., KS to Cecilleia MUNRO on 27 May 1884. The name and marriage record for this marriage is from the marriage index in Sumner Co., Book B, page 349. He married second on 7 November 1886 to Anna Laura MEARS. This record is listed in Book C, page 272. James died of heart failure. Funeral services for him were held at home.
