Jose came to Cuba from Spain. He was born in Gijon, Asturias, Spain. He married Dolores Zaldibar in Cuba about 1880. Delores' father was Salvador Zaldibar and her mother was Maria de la Luz Arenas. They came to Tampa about 1901. They spoke Spanish and worked in the Cigar factories in Tampa. Jose was a Selector and traveled between Cuba and Tampa aboard the steamships owned by Henry B Plant, the Mascotte and the Olivette. They had five children: Blanca, Jose, Estela, Rafael and Manuel. Blanca and Estela and buried next to each other at Woodlawn Cemetery in Tampa.
