WEST COLUMBIA -- Services for Farris Harvin Davis, 81, of West Columbia, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Springdale Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Tommy McGill. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Ridge Spring. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Springdale Baptist Church, 357 Watting Road, West Columbia, 29170.

Mr. Davis, widower of Mary C. Davis, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008. Born in Neeces, SC, he was the son of the late George and Alice Joyner Davis. Mr. Davis started his life of service at Olympia High School with his classmates and by playing on various sport teams. He then served his county [sic] in the Navy, Army, Air Corps, Army Reserve and South Carolina National Guard. He was employed by and then retired from the Veteran's Administration Medical Center where he worked in the Accounting Department. He was an active member of Springdale Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, in Brotherhood, and served on various committees. Mr. Davis was dedicated to his family and provided for them with much love. Mr. Davis served God and his Savior Jesus through his life and was a great example of Christian love.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, William and Laura Davis of Columbia, and Andrew and Roxanne Davis of Evans, GA; two grandchildren, Alexia Davis and Rachel Roddy; brother, Roy "Bo" Davis of West Columbia; and a special friend, Joyce B. Hooker.
