Hymon Oscar Davis, affectionately known as "Tiny" was born May 13, 1923 in Orangeburg County, SC. He spent his childhood in Columbia. He became involved in the Army's youth programs after his family received assistance due to a household fire. In 1944, while serving in the United States Army, he met and married Lieutenant Erna Reed who was stationed with The Salvation Army in Spokane, Washington. He entered The Salvation Army School for Officers Training in 1946 as part of the Warrior Session and was commissioned in 1947. Major and Mrs. Davis served in both Corps and Men's Social appointments in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and Georgia Divisions, before retiring from Smithfield, North Carolina in July of 1981. Major Davis resided in West Columbia until his Promotion To Glory, February 27, 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Erna, four daughters, Major Jean Leatherman, Jacqueline Warren, Alice Louise Cox, Bertha Ann Wood, and one son Hymon M. Davis, 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, his mother, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
