Manferd StanCombe of Mitchell passed away Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at Richard L Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center in Indianapolis. Born February 15, 1932, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Clyde and Nettie (East) StanCombe. He married Dorothy Marie Baker on May 14, 1953, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons; Manferd Stephen StanCombe and Lenuel Dale StanCombe, both of Mitchell; four daughters: Mrs. Larry (Vickie) Bell of Mitchell, Mrs. John (Patty) Frost of Alabama, Mrs. Argus (Debbie) Young of Bedford, Mrs. Jerry (Marcella Kay) Patton of Orleans; one brother, Lenuel StanCombe of Mitchell; four sisters: Leora Parker and Rose Pridemore, both of Norman, Ethel StanCombe of Ellettsville, and Juanita StanCombe of California; sixteen grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Allen, three brothers, and three sisters. He was a member of Wildwood Community Church of Jesus Christ. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served as a military policeman and received the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars. Services for Manferd StanCombe sill be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26th, at the Chastain Funeral Home with Pastor Pansy Branscum officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post #250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9107 will accord military honors at the graveside.
